Obituary

Curtis (Curt) David Haugen died suddenly at the age of 66 as a result of a severe car accident just north of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on Highway 2.

Curt is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Janice, his children, Andrew (Heather, and their child Tora) and Lori (Jordan Sly, and their children Annabelle, Autumn and Levi); his siblings, Ken (Betty), Harvey (Sylvia), Dan (Bev), Edna (Ron Bjorgan), and Sid (Kathy); and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He was predeceased by his father, George and mother, Kerna.

Curt was born in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan on October 18, 1950. He attended Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Science. On August 17, 1980, he married Janice, and soon welcomed their son Andrew (1982) and daughter Lori (1984). Curt excelled at many occupations including high school principal, computer programmer, plant executive, and retired RVer – and was a true ‘Jack of all Trades’. He generously volunteered his time and talents to many places, including Kinasao Lutheran Bible Camp and other church organizations.

He was a selfless individual who often offered to assist family and friends with difficult, hands-on projects. Curt’s sense of humour and giving attitude gained him many friends along his journey of life. Curt and Jan ventured from challenge to challenge, home to home, city to town, with unwavering faith in God and love for each other. Papa Curt gushed over his grandchildren with sincere love and attention, and built a family cabin for all to enjoy for years to come.

Curt will be deeply missed by the many lives he touched. Papa, Dad, Brother, Cousin, Friend. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute (LCBI) or Kinasao Lutheran Bible Camp. On online book of condolences may be signed at www.prairieviewchapel.com. Arrangements are entrusted to Prairie View Cremation and Memorial Services (306) 242-7884.

Been thinking about you guys constantly since I received the news last week. Such a tragedy. I've been thinking about all the ways having Curt around added to my life -- the dishwasher that he spontaneously installed for us while passing through town (after it sat for more than a year in the basement), to the car his family lent me during my days at Augustana, to the summer I spent living at his place in Wynyard 20 years ago, working at Big Quill. I remember him driving the bobcat from the plant to the house in Wynyard, a trip that had taken him something like 3 hours, if I recall correctly. He did a lot of laughing as I recall, and others laughed a lot more when he was around. And even if we didn't see him very often in the last few years, nevertheless, there is a big void in our lives where he used to be. There will come a day, in time, when that void will contain many precious memories of the gifts that he was to us. And one day we shall be reunited. --- a day whose date none of us can predict, as the tragic circumstances of Curt's death reminds us. We love you guys. We are so sorry for your loss. Prayers for Jan's speedy healing from her injuries -- prayers for Andrew and Lori and their families in their grief --- We love you guys. Peace be with you all.
