Beverly Mortenson

Obituary of Beverly Ann Mortenson

Beverly Ann Berggren was born June 28, 1946 moments before her twin brother Bryan at Lady Minto Hospital in Melfort, Saskatchewan to Alfred & Lillian Berggren. Beverly grew up on the family farm west of Naicam as an only girl with two brothers, James and Bryan, to protect her in her life’s journeys. Beverly was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Naicam. She attended Naicam School from grade one to grade eleven. She continued her education at Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute in Outlook, Saskatchewan, taking her grade twelve and one year of Bible. As Beverly was growing up she was involved in Lac Vert 4-H grain and Multiple Clubs, Lutheran Church Choir, Sunday School, Confirmation and Luther League. Beverly did house work for many of the local families in her teen years. Family was very important in her life from a young age. Holidays were always spent with family, filled with aunts, uncles and cousins. Beverly attended Saskatchewan Technical Institute in 1966 and graduated with a Certified Nursing Assistants Certificate. She worked at St Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon in the Hemodialysis Unit. She made lasting friendships, rooming with Joyce Heald (Fertuck) and having Anna Penner (Reddekopp) introducing her to the first love of her life, John Reddekopp. Beverly took a trip to Norway and Sweden with her parents in 1969. One memory that she shared, was that after her visit, her cousin Anna-Lena named her doll Beverly because she couldn’t speak Swedish either. She left the nursing profession to get married, and she moved to Thompson, Manitoba and started her family. On May 27, 1972 she married John Reddekopp and was blessed with her first daughter Christie Beverly on April 28, 1973. Sadly Beverly lost John on August 26, 1974. Beverly decided to move back to Naicam where she had the support of family. Beverly met her second love of her life, Larry Mortenson, in this very church. Larry and Beverly were married here August 19, 1978 and of course Christie was the flower girl. The following June 4, 1979 they were blessed with a baby boy, Kent Larry. Then on their 5th Anniversary, there was an impatient package that wanted to grace them on that day, their daughter Jaylene Lilian was born. Sadly Beverly lost Larry on August 24, 2013. Beverly loved her family. Beverly was very supportive of the activities of her children, whether they were headed to Girl Guides, Beavers & Cubs, hockey, figure skating, Saskatchewan Summer & Winter Games, Marathons, school sports, music lessons, Music Festival or church activities. She followed her children wherever she could to help and support them along the way. As her children grew and had families of their own she made it a priority to spend time in each home, making memories that will last a lifetime. Beverly had very fond memories of the many years she spent with Christie and family during Maple Flag in Cold Lake, Alberta. Beverly enjoyed the trips to the cabin at Candle Lake, Saskatchewan to spend time with Kent and family. Jaylene’s home business brought many opportunities for Beverly to be hands on and help Jaylene with preparation and set up of her many trade shows. Over the years Beverly sang soprano in the Church Choir, taught Sunday School and VBS, was a youth leader, a member of the ELW, was involved with the 75th Anniversary Committee of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Beverly was on Music Festival committee for 35 years and was awarded the ‘Volunteer Award’ by the Saskatchewan Music Festival Association in 2011. Beverly was honored to be presented with the ‘Century Family Farm Award’ in 2011 for the Berggren Farm which had been in the family for 100 years. Beverly made many road trips with Larry as he travelled for work. She saw many new places and it often meant a stop at Christie’s while Larry continued on his way. Larry and Beverly supported ‘Trip of the Month’ to raise money for the new curling rink. They even won and were able to travel to Tampa Bay, Florida and Manzanillo, Mexico. Then later they won a trip to Las Vegas through CMI. In 2011 their family went to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. This was Beverly’s dream vacation. In 2012 they made a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. And in 2013 they also took a trip to Tijuana, Mexico. Beverly loved her grandchildren Brett, Lindsey, Liv, Mila, Brie and Nash. She loved travelling to spend time with each and every one of them. Taking pictures of them and their accomplishments along the way. If there was a birthday, graduation, sporting event, musical or just an opportunity to spend time with them, Grandma would be there, or as Brett would say ‘Gramcracker’. She loved them all. They will miss her deeply. Beverly loved to take pictures. She has left us with a legacy of documented memories to look back on of her family and their activities. Making scrapbooks and photo albums of family history and memories made her happy. Spending time with family was very important and she always made it top priority. She will be greatly missed and remembered fondly by all that knew her. Beverly is survived by Daughter CHRISTIE BEVERLY Reddekopp (Dan) and Granddaughters Brett & Lindsey, son KENT LARRY Mortenson (Randi) and Granddaughters Liv and Brie and Grandson Nash, Daughter JAYLENE LILLIAN Andres (Conrad) and Granddaughter Mila, Brother BRYAN BERGGREN (Solveig), Sister-in-law ALICE BERGGREN, nephew Darcy Berggren (Amber), Leila and Odin, nephew Gary Berggren (Karena), Dawven, Damon, Kal and Kira, extended REDDEKOPP families, Mother in Law Lillian Merle Mortenson (John Irving), extended MORTENSON families, uncles, aunts, cousins (their families) and an enormous Family of Friends.
