Elsie Gilchrist (nee Oliver), age 84, passed away in Saskatoon on Friday December 9, 2016. Born in Tilley Alberta, she grew up to be kind, generous, good hearted, an animal lover and a very unselfish person. She married John “Jack” Gilchrist in 1949 and they lived on the farm at McGee and in Saskatoon. She did farm work outside of the home, was a clerk for Saskatoon Federated Co-op and was a homemaker. Elsie loved horses and participating in horse shows, she loved scottie dogs and dog shows, she loved her “soaps” and gardening, especially flowers. Although she only had a grade 8 education, she did extremely well and enjoyed knowing what was going on in the world. She disliked violence but loved old time country music and reading. Predeceased by her parents Christopher and Carvilla Oliver and her husband Jack, and special uncle Harry Johnson. She is survived by her daughters Lorraine Gilchrist, Dawn Gilchrist and son Glen Gilchrist, and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in mom’s name to Saskatoon Cancer Centre (20 Campus Drive, Saskatoon, SK S7N 4H4) or SPCA (5028 Clarence Avenue South, Grasswood, SK S7T 1A7.
