Obituary of Elsie Popiel

Elsie Popiel passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the age of 92. Elsie is survived by sons William (Esther), Ernest and Lawrence (Diana), daughter in law Shirley and grandchildren Shannon (Todd) Smith, Catherine (Travis) Ritchie, Jeffery (Maggie) Tasha (Alex), Nicholas and great grandchild Taiya Smith. She was predeceased by her husband Walter in 1976 and her son David in 2008. Elsie was born, raised and married in Winnipeg. She moved to Saskatoon to reside with her son William and his family in 2003. She made good friends in the Pulmonary Rehab group and looked forward to their ‘coffee clutch’ several times a week, until she became ill in December 2016. Elsie was an avid gardener of flowers, vegetables and fruit trees throughout her life, When she moved to Saskatoon, she brought some of her favorite perennials but had to leave behind a number of fruit trees and a lofty black walnut tree that the squirrels loved to raid. Elsie sewed, knit, upholstered and did excellent crewel embroidery. She gave a number of her framed pieces to family and friends and completed Christmas stockings (72) for many of us over the years. She also enjoyed baking and cooking, doing crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble and cribbage with family and friends. All will miss her
