Arthur "Art" Gagnon
November 6, 1935 - October 1, 2024
It is with love and respect that we announce the passing of our dad, Arthur (Art) Gagnon on October 1,2024, at the Hospice at Glengarda.
Art was born in Eriksdale, Manitoba, on November 6, 1935.
He spent his early years on the farm with his eight brothers and sisters. He had nice memories of working the horses with his dad, shovelling coal, and completing half his grade 12 (grade 6!). He loved that old joke!
He left home at an early age and faked his age to drive a truck for Imperial Oil.
Art moved his family from Winnipeg to Saskatoon in the late 1960's. He began a lifetime of working in the construction field at one time owning his own company. Dad was a jack of all trades with skills in welding, demolition, and construction. He was a prideful, hard working, equipment operator who hated unions! Many people thought he was the best operator around.
He was an avid Montreal Canadians and Winnipeg Bluebomber fan.
Dad drank a lot, smoked a lot, laughed a lot and loved to tease.
Dad had many friends, many of whom were from the Saskatoon Police Service. Dad loved house parties (blue haze of cigarette smoke), barbecues and getting dirty under the hood of a truck.
Whatever Art faced throughout his life, he chose happiness over sadness, laughter over tears, and always kindness. Some of his words of wisdom included, 'Don't ever ask people how they are doing if you don't have the time to stand and listen.´
He is survived by his son, Tony (Claudette) and daughter Carol (great granddaughter Nila); his grandchildren, Natashia (Andrew - Felix and Farrow), Jesse, Anna (Dax - Bronson and Mia), Coleman (Allyce - Aubree and Easton), Dallice and Missy; Art's partner of 16 years, Jackie St. Jean; Jackie's three children Sylvains, Fern and Linda and their families; his sister Diane; Art's first wife and mother of his children, Elaine Morrison; and many nieces and nephews.
Art was predeceased by his parents, Marie Morand and Joseph Gagnon, his second wife Reta Procur, his brothers Henry, Wilfred, Alfie, Maurice, and his sisters Jean, Gladice, and Florence.
Art loved his family and never left a visit or phone call without saying I Love You.
Honoring Art's words, in closing,
'Love and Miss You Baby.´
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to all caregivers at RUH and for the special care and attention he received from the staff at the Hospice at Glengarda.
A private family celebration will be held at a later date.
