Barrie William Douglas
1937-2018
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Barrie Douglas at St. Paul’s Hospital on Saturday, January 6, 2018. Barrie was born December 2, 1937 in Winnipeg where he grew up, apart from a few years in Calgary during WW2. He attended Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute in Winnipeg. Barrie was a fine athlete and excelled at hockey, being notable for his outstanding skating skills. He played junior hockey in Winnipeg and enjoyed many years of senior hockey. Barrie worked for CP Rail for 37 years in Manitoba, Ontario, and Saskatchewan, and then retired to Saskatoon. Barrie was a devoted husband and father, and throughout the years enjoyed many activities with his family – biking, swimming, cross-country skiing, and movies. Barrie is lovingly remembered by his wife Heather, daughter Shelley Douglas (Miles Mackow), grandson Trace, son Robert Douglas (Jennifer Shmyr), granddaughter Geneva, grandson Greyson, brother Richard (Sue), sisters Lois Smith (Ian), Carolyn McKenzie (David), Janice Laing (Bill), numerous nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces. Barrie was predeceased by his parents William and Gertrude Douglas of Winnipeg. His humour, warm heart and generous spirit will be missed by those who knew him.
