It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Bernice Cecelia Obrigavitch born November 18, 1961 and passing away at the early age of 63 on December 28, 2024 in Saskatoon with her family by her side. Bernice will be lovingly remembered by daughters, April and Angel; step-sons, Nathan and Gared; siblings, Beverly (Randy), Brenda (Bill), Michelle and Michael (Kathy); nieces and nephews, Nicole (Cameron), Jesse, Kyle and Jordan; sister in-law, Diane (Tracey and Shannon); and numerous other family members, friends and loyal dog Koda.
Bernice was born in Swan River and grew up in Pine River, Manitoba on the farm. Daughter of Celia and Mike (predeceased) Yurkewich. Bernice has one brother, four sisters one of which being a twin to her. She graduated from Ethelbert Collegiate and shortly after moved to Saskatoon with her twin.
Bernice was a strong, hard working woman. From 1980 to 2006 she worked in Saskatoon as a waitress. Then her last job of 18 years for the R.M. of Blucher at the transfer station; which she loved. She was adored by many and met multiple good friends along the way. During the holidays people would drop her off gifts such as wine, cards, homemade desserts and in the summer months others would bring fresh veggies from their garden that she appreciated dearly.
She was an inspiration for a caring individual. After some years Bernice adopted her nieces April and Angel. They became her joy to a new life of motherhood she dreamed of.
Bernice had a creative side to her. Cabinets, wardrobes, chairs, you name it; she would take home and transform these items back to life. She always saw the potential. She spent many days keeping busy by organizing, gardening and canning. Many hours in the kitchen baking desserts, bread and meals. She made every holiday a magical time. Bernice adored the Christmas holidays. Completely decorating the house into a winter wonderland. During the summer months she would travel back home to Manitoba to spend time with family. She cherished family time.
During the harvest season Bernice would bring lunches and supper to her companion Gerald (who she lost to cancer May 1st, 2024). She loved late nights on the combine. She enjoyed the simple things in life.
She battled a courageous fight with cancer; with the support and love of her family.
A selfless mother, daughter, sister and aunt.
The world changes from year to year, our lives from day to day, but the love and memory of you, shall never pass away.
