Cathy Turnbull

d. June 8, 2017

Catherine Jane Turnbull passed peacefully in Saskatoon on June 8, 2017 at the age of 58, due to complications arising from an extreme allergic reaction. Born in Watrous and raised in Plunkett SK, she was predeceased by her father and is lovingly remembered by her mother, sisters, brother, husband, children and grandchildren. Born to Bob and Deloris Wilson in 1958, she was the first of four rowdy farm kids, and as the eldest she kept them in line. Her sisters Linda and Rosanne came shortly after, followed by her only brother Ken. Raised on the farm at first, the family moved to the bustling metropolis of Plunkett when Cathy was attending grade school, first in Plunkett and then in Viscount. In 1975 she married Graham Turnbull, who was then living in Watrous with his family. Together they had two children: Reagan and Ryan. After some time living in rural Saskatchewan and northern Alberta, Cathy and her family settled down in Saskatoon. She worked at U&R Tax Services for approximately ten years, preparing tax returns and finishing up acting as District Manager for the regional offices. She moved on from U&R to work with Money Mart as a customer service clerk for eight years, then to Lardner Trailer Sales in their warranty department since 2006. Reagan brought Cathy a son-in-law, Hanz, to expand her circle of love (if one can expand on infinity), and shortly thereafter Ryan brought her his lovely wife, Amie. Ryan and Amie gifted Cathy with four beautiful grandchildren, Nicole, Jonathan, Caitlin and Allison, and the infinite circle grew ever wider. She was never happier than when she was spending time with family and friends, and she made friends with nearly every person she met. If friends of her kids or grandkids came by the house, they were instantly included in any meals, events or entertainments she could devise...and rarely did one get away without at least a bowl of ice cream. People never knew what colour the fridge was due to all the proudly displayed artwork and photos, and even after going through a challenging house fire in early 2015, one of the first things to go back in the house were the rescued fridge photos and ‘commissioned’ replacement art. Cathy will always be remembered by her generous spirit, enduring optimism, and her enthusiasm for sharing what she enjoyed with those she loved. No story of Cathy could be complete without her feeding someone, or helping them to live their dreams, or somehow helping someone in some way. She also loved working in her garden, and the generosity of her spirit was mirrored in the beauty of her yard (with vegetables as well as flowers so she could continue to feed people, of course). Her generosity extended to the animal kingdom as well, and for all her life she enjoyed the company of her furry children, be they dog, cat, cow or ferret. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saskatoon SPCA or Diabetes Canada.
