Born: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Born: Surbiton, Saskatchewan
Myra Joan Blackwell passed away peacefully on May 17, 2024 at the age of 88, followed shortly thereafter by her husband of 65 years, Danny Robert Malcolm Blackwell, 91, who went to be with her in the early morning of May 30, 2024 while surrounded by loving family.
Danny and Myra met as children and built a life together full of adventure, companionship, family, and joyfulness. They married February 21, 1959, and first established their family in Furdale, Saskatchewan before planting roots at their farm in the rural area south of Saskatoon. By trade Myra was a hairdresser and Danny worked at the University of Saskatchewan as an animal technician. The pair enjoyed the outdoors together and created heartfelt memories at their cabin at Candle Lake and their vacation home on the coast of BC in Nanoose Bay. Myra was a talented crafter and baker and she particularly looked forward to the annual tradition of making gingerbread cookies with her grandchildren at Christmas. In his earlier years, Danny was a pilot and thoroughly enjoyed flying his plane. Together they shared a passion for beekeeping and had a love for animals, birds, and gardening.
Danny and Myra are survived by their three children, Beverly (Mike) Yakymiw, Lindsay (Jodi) Blackwell, and Murray (Paulla) Blackwell; six grandchildren, Roxanne (Colin) McHattie, Alexandra Blackwell, Stephen and Lacey Lubovicki, and Emily and Olivia Blackwell; one great grandson, Lochlan McHattie; and Danny’s brother, Marvin (Carole) Blackwell.
They were predeceased by Myra’s parents, Gordon and Dorothy Dash, and her sister Wanda Wolfe; Danny’s parents Frederick and Maggie “Madge” Blackwell and his brothers John (Betty) Blackwell and Stan (Erica) Blackwell and his sister Jean (Donald) McGowan.
A private family graveside service will be held at Candle Lake Cemetery at a later date.
