Harrison Effie

February 4, 1927 - November 22, 2018

Our dear wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother will be greatly missed by her loving husband of nearly 70 years, Basil, son Wayne (Brenda) Harrison, daughters Kathy Koppang, and Sherry (Don) Campbell, six grandchildren, Tracy (Jean- Paul) Berretta, Tylar (Theresa) Koppang, Heather (Trevor) Gray, Graeme (Kimberly) Harrison, Nathan Taves and Alex (Brittany) Campbell, five precious great-grandchildren, Lucas and Tea Berretta and Aiden, Kate and Rowan Gray. She was predeceased by her parents, Timofay and Irina Naumtez, brother Percy and sisters Christine, Ella and Lahna. She is her survived by her sister Lillian, many nieces and nephews, and several first cousins in the Ukraine. Effie was born in a small village in the Ukraine; when she was six months old the family immigrated to Canada and settled in the Hubbard area. She attended Stanisloff Elementary School and Hubbard High School. In 1946 Effie moved to Saskatoon to attend Saskatoon Business College. At the completion of her course she worked at the Department of Highways until her marriage in 1949 to Basil. Together they raised their three children in the Riversdale area. When the youngest started school Effie resumed her career, working for Intercontinental Packers, Sears Canada and finally for Corrections Canada, from where she retired in 1990. In her retirement she enjoyed embroidering, sewing, knitting, baking, gardening, reading and spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She had a very close and special relationship with each of them and they all have many wonderful "Nanny" memories as well as being recipients of her amazing handiwork which they will always have as treasured keepsakes. Her one regret was not being able to meet her identical twin great granddaughters born this year; however, having learned how to use a computer at the age of 88 she was able to follow their progress on a daily basis. The family expresses a special thanks to the wonderful, caring staff at Luther Riverside Towers and the Royal University Hospital who went above and beyond the call of duty in the past two weeks. A family memorial service will be held in the summer of 2019 near Hubbard.
