James Reichert
1930 - 2016
Sadly, we announce the death of James Reichert on the evening of August 19, 2016 at St. Paul’s Hospital surrounded by his family. He is missed by his wife Bette and sons Robert (Penny; granddaughter Sophie), James Jr., and David (Heather). He also leaves his brother Spencer (Faye), and best friends Jim Reese and Bob Cardinal (Carla). Jim was an exceptional pilot and a familiar face to many over the years as he flew in and out of countless airports across Saskatchewan and Alberta. In 1968 Jim started an aerial photography company which he, along with his wife and sons, continued to run until the last year of his life. Over this period Jim photographed tens of thousands of farms, towns and villages, and his work is displayed proudly in homes throughout the prairie provinces. In 2006 Jim’s aerial accomplishments were recognized by the Saskatchewan Aviation Hall of Fame in which he was inducted. In 1976 Jim and his family expanded their photography business to include Frontier Super-Fast Processors which was notable for being the first photo lab in Saskatchewan to offer same-day film and print processing. After selling that portion of the company in 1994, and at an age when most would consider retirement, Jim continued to fly and take aerial photographs until illness finally grounded him late last year. Jim was a true original and all those who knew him came to appreciate his characteristic energy, wit, and love of life. He will be deeply missed.
