It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Jean Bounds who left us on August 17, 2024 at the age of 94 at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon.
Mom is survived by son Murray (Karen), grandchildren Steven(Char), Danny, John(Ashley); daughter Marsha Brown(Sid), grandchildren Rebecca(Mike Lees), Matthew(Jalynn Brown), son Ian (Réal); and great grandchildren Sadie, Randelle, Zack, Seth and Elizabeth Bounds, Carson and Gavin Lees, Autumn and Easton Brown, as well as her sister Roberta Parker and sister-in-law Emma Marshall.
Mom is predeceased by her husband Dennis Bounds in 1996, parents Robert and Margaret Marshall, parents-in-law Jack and Edith Bounds; sisters Marion(Jim) Ingram, Marjorie(Bryce) Ingram, Janet(Albert) Gall, Elizabeth (Jim) Robertson, Brothers Jimmy(Edith) Marshall and William/Billy(Annie) Marshall, brother-in-law Johnny Parker, sister-in-law Pam Linkleter(Barney Jorgenson), Lorne Linkleter; and her very first grandchild Shane Bounds.
Mom was born in Watson, Sk. on May 11, 1930. She grew up on the family farm outside of the very small community of Scrip, Sk. Most of her schooling was at Scrip and for her last two senior years she attended the Rose Valley high school. Mom then went to Saskatoon to attend Business College, after finishing she returned to Rose Valley where she worked in the bank.
In 1950, Mom married Dennis Bounds of Rose Valley and lived there a short while, then off to Selkirk, Man. to live close to Dennis's sister Pam and bother-in-law Barney Jorgenson. Barney owned a taxi business so both Mom and Dad drove taxi. After 3 ½ years they moved back to Rose Valley for 1 year. They then headed their way to Crane Valley (southern Sk.) with 3 small children. Dad worked for the Searle Grain Elevator and mom picked up cleaning jobs, working part-time in the post office, at the general store and also at the small community of Cardross in the general store that also sold fuel oil and gas. Hard to believe Mom pumped gas and fuel at the very young age, I still don't do it. Mom was very involved with the Crane Valley Community, church ladies, 4-H leader and cleaned the community hall. Mom and Dad hated to leave their wonderful friends but after 12 years Dad got a job in Punnichy, Sk. with the Federal Grain Company. Two weeks after moving there, Mom was hired on with the Bank of Montreal and eventually Mom became the Bank Manager. Mom was also very busy in Punnichy volunteering her time; auditing books for different organizations, belonged to United Church, was on town council, and was on the committee to get the Silver Heights up and running in Raymore. During this time Mom also became a very important part of Dad's life as he had many struggles with his health. When Dad died in Feb 1996, and after 22 years in Punnichy, Mom moved in fall of that year to Quill Lake, Sk. to be close to siblings and many friends. Mom led a very busy life in Quill Lake. She volunteered with many organizations, on Town Council, part of the United Church group and seniors group. Her daily routine included playing cards, cooking for herself, as well as baking and canning to give to family and friends.
Due to life changes Mom moved to Saskatoon, Sk. (St. Anne's Village) and once again Mom mixed very well with her new community and then got to see more of her son Ian, daughter Marsha, her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Every summer Mom would make a two month trip to Drayton Valley to see Murray and Karen and family.
After 12 years living on her own in Saskatoon Mom moved into the Care Home System and was at Amy McClure house for the last 3 ½ years. After all the moving and changes, Mom never complained, well maybe a little. But with every move she made some amazing friends.
With all the phone calls and texts received these are some of the words that I picked out that described Mom. Smart, great gal, quick witted, funny, kind caregiver to Dad, great card player, hard worker, great investor, wonderful Boss and Friend. She loved to kibitz with friends and relatives even on her last days with the nurses at St. Paul's Hospital.
We love you Mom and we will always miss you.
As per Jean's wishes only a graveside service will be held at Quill Lake Cemetery on May 3, 2025.
