Joan Arnold

d. October 16, 2017

Arnold On Monday, October 16, 2017, Joan Carole, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away at the age of 78. She will be forever remembered by her husband and best friend, Jack of 58 years, her son Jim, daughter-in-law Tania, grandchildren Brittany Arnold, Erin Craven, Evan Craven, Eric Craven and Shantaya Arnold and a very special friend, Dorothy Armstrong. Joan, born on December 21, 1938 in Farnham England, moved to Canada in 1958. She and Jack married in North Bay, Ontario where Jack was stationed in the Royal Canadian Air Force. As a military wife, Joan lived in many different areas, Senneterre, and Mont Apica, Quebec, Biloxi, Mississippi, Barrington Passage, Nova Scotia and Dana, Saskatchewan. Once Jack retired, they made a home in Saskatoon, St. Denis (on the acreage) and Dalmeny. Throughout their many homes, St. Denis held a special place in Joan’s heart, as there, she made close friends with many in the community. As Joan loved to cook, she started an ethnic supper club with a close group of friends, which spanned over 20 years. Joan was always busy. She loved to cook and bake, work in the vegetable and flower gardens, go berry picking and make jams and jellies. She enjoyed ceramics, did beautiful works in needlepoint and petit point and created numerous sweaters, hats, scarves and mitts for the grandchildren. The grandchildren will always remember Grandma for her pies; sausage rolls at Christmas, incredible buns, Yorkshire pudding and of course, always having decadent ice cream for dessert. Joan loved the outdoors and nature. In the early days, she would snow shoe and cross country ski. Camping was always at the top of Joan’s list. She and Jack spent many summers at Little Bear Lake, fishing and enjoying the quiet. She and Jack loved to explore the riverbank here in Saskatoon walking their dog, Shadow, for miles every day. Joan loved animals and was rarely without at least one pet to take care of, nurture and spoil. Their cat, ‘Simba’, was known to enjoy more than the occasional treat of shrimp or fish! Over the last 15 years, Joan and Jack began going on cruises and saw much of the world, making friends along the way. The last few years, once retired from ‘cruising’, they downsized and moved to a condo where they enjoyed happy hours and coffee mornings. Joan was predeceased by her parent’s, Ken and Vera Corbett and Jack and Joan’s daughter, Charlene, November of 1979. Those who desire may make a memorial donation in memory of Joan to the Canadian Cancer Society or The Saskatoon S.P.C.A.
