Judith Carol Laverty

1958 — January 21, 2021

LAVERTY, Judith (Judy) Carol

Judith (Judy) Carol Laverty passed away suddenly at home in Saskatoon, SK on January 21, 2021 in her 63rd year. Judy will be dearly missed by her son, Jeremy Wildeman, (Courtney) (Wainwright, AB) and daughter Paige Wildeman (Saskatoon, SK), her 2 brothers, Dan Laverty (Sandy) (Peachland, BC) and Greg Laverty (Gwen) (Mississauga, ON), 1 nephew, Dustin (Ma Karuna) and 2 nieces, Brittney (Billy) and Brianne, 1 great-nephew (Cooper) and one great-niece (Dawsyn).  She was pre-deceased by her parents John and Lillian Laverty (nee Fjaagesund).

Judy grew up in Lloydminster, AB where she enjoyed typical teenage activities, including having a good time with friends, sports and outdoor activities like camping.  She spent a lot of time at the swimming pool, as a competitive swimmer, a pool rat and later, as a lifeguard. Being a good swimmer was a skill Judy instilled in Paige & Jeremy at a young age.

She graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and later, augmented this with a Master’s of Arts in Gender and Social Justice Studies.  Judy taught school for a few years before pursuing other jobs in Alberta.  For over the past 10 years, she and her daughter, Paige worked as a tandem team to run a Mental Health Approved Home in Saskatoon.

Judy loved to travel – within the prairie provinces to visit friends, but also to warm locales to escape some of the brutal aspects of the long Saskatchewan winters. Judy also enjoyed her home life, a good book, and certainly found little joys in life worth celebrating. It would be a rare time, if any, during her adult life that she did not have one or more cats - often strays that seemed to be able to sniff out an empathetic prospective owner.

Judy will always be remembered by her caring nature, the ability to see the silver lining in situations and no matter what life threw at her, Judy was never was one to complain. Judy was always comforting, cheery and had an infectious big smile we will miss. Judy was extremely proud of Paige & Jeremy. And was excited to be expecting her first grandbaby from Jeremy in March 2021.

Judy loved trying new foods, had a passion for hosting and was an advocate of a discerning Happy Hour. She would like nothing more than for her friends & family to hoist a fine wine in her memory.

Due to Covid 19, a service or a celebration of life will not be held at this time.

If desired, in Judy’s honour, memorial donations to Canadian Mental Health Association – Saskatoon Branch Inc. would be greatly appreciated.
