Juel (Bussy) Frydenlund

September 13, 1917 – April 10, 2018

The end of a long and happy life has come for our Dad, Juel (Bussy) Frydenlund, who died on April 10 at the age of 100 years.  Juel was born September 13, 1917 at home in the South Allan area to Norwegian immigrant parents, Ludwig and Inga Frydenlund, fourth in the family of seven children. Juel is predeceased by his parents, his brothers Ottar and Sigvald, sisters Alvilde (Lalla), Inger (Dollie) and Loreen, sister-in-law Marie (Alisch), brothers-in-law Knute Berg, Frank Gore, Jim Hunter and Raymond Trulsrud, and his grandson Jordan.  He is survived by his loving wife of almost 75 years, Jean (Allwood), sister Valborg Hunter,  daughter Margaret (Viktor) Fast and children, Karl (Samantha) and their son Niles Fast; David Fast (Crystal Peters); and Peter (Marie) and their children Alexander, Elliott and Isla Fast; son Karsten (Shirley)  and children Kiersten (Roy) and their children Kymberly and William Kirkpatrick; Severin (Jaime)  and their daughters Tova and Solveigh Frydenlund; and son Halvor,  as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Juel was raised on the farm, served in the RCAF as an aero engine mechanic during WWII, and married Jean Allwood in 1943. Returning to South Allan they successfully farmed for 50 years before relocating to

Saskatoon

where they continued to show the warm hospitality that was their trademark. Dad was active on the boards of two country schools,

River

and Simmons, as well as the boards of

. Dad’s constant faith was revealed in the way he lived, with gentleness, kindness and humour.  Some of the endeavours that engaged his interest and curiosity included the “Happy Gang,” CCF-NDP politics, curling, and compiling historical scrapbooks. Dad retained his ability to speak Norwegian; a highlight of his life was his trip with Mom to

Norway

to reconnect with family there. Dad was an excellent mechanic and carpenter; in his retirement, he spent many happy hours with the Pioneer Thresherman’s Club at the WDM helping to repair and demonstrate machinery.  After residing in Luther Riverside Terrace and then the Care Home there, Dad moved to the Veteran’s Village at Sherbrooke Community Centre in October, 2017. The family is most appreciative of the kindnesses extended by all of Dad’s caregivers. The memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 2:00 pm at
