Marion Frances Stewart passed away peacefully on September 8th, 2024, in the palliative care unit at St. Paul's hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at the age of 84. Marion is survived by her daughter Katherine Stewart (Jacki), granddaughter Isabelle Stewart, four stepchildren Kelly Umpherville (Brad), Gregg Stewart (Sabine), Ross Stewart (Brigitte) and Doug Stewart (Danielle) and their children. She is also survived by her niece and nephews April, Malcolm and James Paxton. She is predeceased by her husband Gordon Stewart and her son James Stewart (Melissa).
Marion was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Lillian Winsor and adopted by Janet and James Paxton. She spent her early years in Glaslyn, Saskatchewan, moving to Kinistino, Saskatchewan and Brooks, Alberta before completing high school. She completed her Bachelor of Education at the University of Alberta and was an elementary school teacher in Calgary, Alberta where she eventually met her husband Gordan Stewart and raised her family. Marion lived near Kaslo, British Columbia turning the family summer cottage into a home, later relocating to Kelowna, British Columbia and finally returning to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in her final years.
Marion was adventurous and travelled widely, spending a year travelling Europe in a VW van and later visiting Spain, Mexico, Greece and Ghana. In addition to raising her children she was an active member in the Pleasant Heights United Church, a member of the Himalayan Institute meditation group and a yoga instructor. She volunteered for many organizations in Calgary and Kaslo and was always on the go. Marion loved classical music, gardening, taking her four-legged friends for a walk and enjoying a good meal. She will be deeply missed.
A private memorial will be held in the spring of 2025 and Marion's ashes will be scattered on the shores of Kootenay Lake.
