MARJORIE EDNA McKEITH
August 4, 1920 – July 5, 2017
It is with hearts full of sadness & love that we announce the passing of our mother, Marj. She passed away peacefully at Luther Special Care Home - with family by her side.
Marj was born on the family farm north of Hazenmore, SK. As the eldest of three children born to John and Helen McKeith, she grew up surrounded by the love of her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Aside from helping with chores, she always enjoyed playing a game of ball in the summer and skating in the winter. Music was an integral part of her life as she loved dancing, sing-a-longs, playing the piano, and in 1937 completed Grade 7 of the Toronto Conservatory of Music.
She will always be remembered as a devoted mother and gracious host to the many extended family and friends who enjoyed her delicious meals and generous hospitality. During those years she worked as an office bookkeeper and later on in the X-Ray Department at RUH until she retired in 1985. She was an expert seamstress, loved to knit, crochet and embroider as well as garden. Marj was a volunteer for the Royal Canadian Legion and a Lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She also volunteered as a Sunday School Teacher, as a helper for the Librarian at Holliston School and with the Grade 1 Teachers at both Holliston and Brunskill Schools. Marj was a dedicated Bridge player throughout her life and often played 3 or more times a week while living in Luther Tower (2004-2016).
Marj has participated in and enjoyed a multitude of activities with friends and family during her lifetime. She especially enjoyed family camping trips which continued until she was 89 years old. Marj had a lifelong quest for learning and a desire to share family history with her family. Those who have had the privilege to know her have benefited from her love, compassion, honesty, integrity, sense of humour and the respect she has shown them by being a friend.
Marj is survived by her daughters Connie (Glen), Gaylene (Rick), Mechele (Gene); granddaughters Laurel, Lindsay (Rob), and Angela; great grandchildren Julius, Valentino, Megan and Ellie. She was predeceased by her parents John & Helen (McKenzie) McKeith, brothers Wesley (WW11) & Stewart, sister-in-law Roberta and niece Joan.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Luther Tower, Luther Intermediate Care Home and Luther Special Care Home. The ‘Continuum of Living’ provided by so many wonderful staff members who lovingly cared for Mom, also supported our family - especially during the past 16 months. We thank you for this!
