Mary Helen Peace
Our dear aunt Helen passed away in her 100th year at Extendicare, Saskatoon. Helen was born at Wadena, Saskatchewan to John and Ellen (Carlson) Peace. One of seven children. She has now joined her parents; brothers, Bill, Archie, Bob, Norman; and sister, Margaret (Rusnell). Her youngest sister, Ida (Brown) resides in British Columbia. She will be dearly missed by her many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews, and her great-great nieces and nephews. She was like a “mom” to many of us. She was kind, compassionate and had a very generous heart. Her sense of humour and teasing brought many laughs. In June 1942 Helen joined the R.C.A.F and was stationed in Winnipeg where her rank was “law”. In November 1945, the war had ended and she returned home. She was employed by a law firm in Wadena prior to moving to Calgary. In 1948 she started her long career with International Harvester Company where she remained for 30 years. She thoroughly enjoyed her work and shared many stories of her time there. In 1959 she purchased her first home and took in boarders who quickly became family and enjoyed many good times together. Aunt Helen’s (Holly to some) door was always open to her nieces and nephews, and she was always there for guidance and support. In 1978 upon retiring she moved to Saskatoon to be closer to brothers Archie and Norman and their families. She loved to entertain, serving delicious meals, enjoying a tall rye and watching a Rider game brought her the most joy. She was one of the Riders most loyal fans, never missing a game by attending one or watching it on T.V. She loved to visit “Rider Camp” when it was held in Saskatoon. Visiting her on game day at the care home, you would see her wearing her Rider jersey. “Win or lose” her love for the Riders “Prevailed”!
The love and memories we shared will
forever remain, never forgotten.
