MARY THACKER (nee Rivney)
April 1, 1924 – Dec. 5, 2018
Mary Thacker, 94, of Saskatoon SK died peacefully in her home on Dec. 5. 2018. She is predeceased by her husband of almost 62 years, John (Ted) Thacker, twin sons Patrick and Michael, and brothers Paul, Peter, and John.
Mary is survived by children Pat Conlon (Steve), Sue Stefanuk (Gord), Wayne (Cheryl), Teresa Herd (Peter), Sandy (Randy Butterfield), sister Nettie Patershuk (Lawrence), brother Ted Rivney. Left to remember their Baba are 12 grandchildren: Paul and Rhea Conlon; Kyra, Ian and Della Stefanuk; Sara (Ash Fraser), Katie (Dan Story), Tessa (Tory Willfong); Tyler and Jeremy Herd; Bronwyn and Frances Butterfield; and great-grandson Max Fraser.
Mary grew up on a farm near the town of Preeceville. She attended Saskatoon City Hospital School of Nursing and UBC, graduating with her nursing degree in 1947. She nursed in hospitals in Preeceville, Melfort, Casper Wyoming, Saskatoon, and did Public Health nursing at North Battleford, Unity and Saskatoon before leaving the workforce to raise a family.
Mom was a wonderful, resourceful homemaker, wife and mother. She and Dad were blessed with many happy years together, including a long retirement where they enjoyed activities such as traveling and square/pattern dancing. In addition to her love of gardening and flowers, Mom excelled at quilting, sewing, and petit point; her warm smile and her wonderful homemade gifts will be treasured.
