Phyllis June Mykota (nee Rusick)

February 16, 1932 – November 18, 2023

Phyllis was born in Cudworth, SK the oldest of four children.  Eventually the family  moved to Saskatoon, after their business was destroyed by fire, and she would spend the rest of her life in the city she loved!

Soon Phyllis would meet Ed Mykota, marry at 19, and raise a family.

When the kids were older Phyllis began working at the U. of S., Crop Science Dept. where she spent decades as a Research Technician.  She was proud to be part of new discoveries and the research community.

When she “retired” she completed her TESL certification but instead found another calling as a Marriage Commissioner.

Phyllis had several interests and was awarded for her accomplishments throughout her life. She enjoyed reading, baking, ceramics, basket weaving, sewing, needlework, photography, and in her later years, watercolour painting. She also loved gardening, birds and particularly flowers and fauna. She was an active member of the Orchid Society, the Natural History Society, Nordic Ski Club, and Founding Committee member of the Sask. 60.

Phyllis was known for her creativity, optimism, thirst for knowledge, kindness, her love of a good tease, independence, and strong will.

Left behind are her children David and his son Christopher, Christine (Steve, deceased) and her son Elias.  Her siblings, Jack (Mabel) Rusick, Marie Graham, and Ted (Donna) Rusick.  She also has nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends to remember her spirit.

A special Thank You to Sunnyside Care Centre for their compassionate care over the last year.
