Ross Harnett

January 22, 1957 — April 13, 2025

With broken hearts, Devon and I share the sad news that Ross passed away suddenly at home, early in the morning of April 13, 2025. Although this was unexpected, and a shock, we take any solace we can from the hope that he went fast and painlessly and won't be suffering anymore.

Ross is survived by his wife, Joanne, and son, Devon; mother-in-law Evelina Weisenberger; brothers Fred (Sandra), Greg, and Don (Colleen); sister, Colleen Carey (Brad); brothers-in-law Harvey, Dave, Ken and Doug (Janis) Weisenberger, sisters-in-law Elaine Weisenberger and Susan Weisenberger, as well as many nieces and nephews. Ross was especially close to his only sister, Colleen. She was, and always will be, his special angel.

Ross was predeceased by his father, Fred; his mother, Dorothy; his father-in-law, Harold Weisenberger; his sister-in-law, Donna Weisenberger; and his brothers-in-law, Ronnie Weisenberger, and Kim Weisenberger.

Ross was born in Moose Jaw, SK in 1957, the fourth of five children. His family later moved to Regina where he attended grade school and high school.

Ross spent the majority of his career working in the printing trade. First at Brigden's in Regina, followed by The Graphics Centre when he was transferred to Saskatoon, and then finally at Mercury Graphics where he stayed until the plant was closed in 2008. In 2009 Ross joined Gregg Distributors, as a driver and did this until he retired in 2021. Ross took great pride in his job no matter what he was tasked to do. He always gave more than asked. He loved what he did and the people he worked with.

Ross met Joanne, a client of The Graphics Centre, at work one day. The sparks soon flew, and they married the following year, in July of 1982. They welcomed their son, Devon, to the family in 1991. Ross was a wonderful husband and a fabulous father. He would have done anything for his boy. He may not have always been the most demonstrative person, and he may have had difficulty expressing his emotions sometimes, but he loved Devon deeply. He was very proud of his son and always wanted the best for him. His influence on Devon's life is evident in the character of the son he raised.

Ross retired in December of 2021. He had a lifelong dream to have a motorhome and we were able to fulfill that dream when he retired. He absolutely loved that thing. His chest would swell with pride when he swung himself up in the driver's seat, his faithful companion, Pica, in the passenger seat and his lovely wife relegated to back seat somewhere. I'm so glad we did have a few summers to enjoy it.

We travelled to Maui every year for many years and Ross really loved these trips. If Maui is heaven on earth, I hope he got the direct flight to heaven's version of Maui.

Ross just loved to travel, and we enjoyed the many trips we did throughout our years together. One of his most memorable trips was the one we took to Talladega for a Nascar race. For his birthday in 2007, Devon and I gave him his birthday card which held tickets to Talladega. Because he always said this was something he wanted to do before he died, he immediately asked if he was dying. It was a memorable trip and one he thoroughly enjoyed.

In the last years of Ross's life, we were spending more and more time each year in Phoenix. He loved the weather - the hotter, the better. And he loved the spring training games he often went to watch.

Ross loved dogs. We had more than a few throughout the years but Pica was our most recent. They were absolutely devoted to each other, and she is devastated that her best human is gone.

Ross would do anything for anyone at any time. He was always ready to lend a hand. He was a true and loyal friend to those he knew. He truly did have a heart of gold. He had character and he could be a character. His sense of humour came out of left field sometimes and he came up with some seriously funny comments.

Ross loved kids just like his father before him. And kids gravitated to him. His nieces and nephews loved their Uncle Ross and I know they will miss him dearly.

Ross always said that he would go before me and that I would miss him when he was gone. You joke and laugh about these things at the time, but he was right on both counts. I wish every time he said this, I would have given him a long, hard hug, looked him squarely in the eyes, and told him I love him.

  1. Of all the greatest gifts in life
  2. No matter how large or small,
  3. To have you as my husband
  4. Was the greatest gift of all.

Ross, I will miss you more than you will ever know. I love you now and forever.

Joanne and Devon would like to invite all of Ross's friends to a Celebration of His Life which will be held at 602 Lynx Wing, Lair Hall, 2407 Avenue C North, Saskatoon on Saturday, May 17 from 2:00 to 4:00. Please bring your favourite memories of Ross. There will be a short program at 3:00.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

Devon and I would like to thank everyone for their heartfelt messages of love and support. We could not possibly get through this blow to our lives without you!
