Serge Joseph Simon Lalonde
Serge Lalonde, 89, seventy days shy of his 90th birthday, passed peacefully on May 16, 2024, after a long 16-year battle with Alzheimers Disease, in his wife’s loving arms, in Saskatoon Saskatchewan.
Born on July 25, 1934, in Zénon Park, Saskatchewan, Serge was the seventh born in a family of sixteen children. He is predeceased by his parents, Adrienne (April) and Théodule Lalonde, and his siblings Claude, Gabrielle, Estelle, Léonard, Richard, Gaston, Aurèle, and Victor.
Serge left his home town, in 1951, to pursue his education in fine cuisine and food research. He went on to join the Catholique Institution, and became a Brother of Sacred-Heart, in Cornwall, Ontario, in 1955. There he worked as the head-chef, where Serge devoted the next 15 years of his life to his faith. In 1974, he went on to receive a degree in fine arts at the Collège Algoquin in Ottawa, before moving to Port-Au-Prince, Haïti, to teach various forms of art at the Collège Canado-Haïtien.
Serge left the brotherhood, after meeting his Caribbean pearl, Annie Bonne-Année and returned to Canada in 1981. Serge and Annie met, while teaching at an elementary school in Port-Salut, Haïti, in 1979. In 1984 they married and together they raised two children, Alain Joël and Natalie Adrienne.
Serge was a devoted husband and father, known for his generosity, kindness, and infectious sense of humor. He loved reading, cooking, teaching his passion of fine arts, travelling, meeting new people and spending time visiting with his extended family and children.
Serge is survived by his wife of 40 years, Annie, his two children, Alain and Natalie, and his two grand-puppies, Filoue and Zola. Additionally, survived by his siblings Denise, Julien, André, Céline, Irène, Laurent, and Monique, including many nieces and nephews.
