GILKINSON, Stephen Laurie
May 6, 1949 – March 9, 2019
The family of Stephen Laurie Gilkinson sadly announce his passing. He died in his own home on March 9, 2019. He is survived by his elderly mother Bess Gilkinson, his sister Jo (Anne) Snyder and his nephews Jess and Mike Snyder. At Stephen’s request there will not be a funeral service. Steve could draw exceptionally well. After two years of backpacking in Europe, he returned home to focus on an education in Art. His two years of a BEA at the U of S and a completed two year program in Design Arts at Georgian College of Applied Art and Technology led to a varied career in graphics and illustrated art. His learning curve included the mastering of complex computer graphics programs. After fourteen years, including five at SIAST in Prince Albert, he stepped out of the field altogether to pursue other interests.
Despite other pursuits he was above all a solo artist. His own illustrations and stone carvings were meticulous and beautiful. His creative and mystical spirit fed the deeper streams that flowed beneath the surface of his life. He had a passion for nature and an eye for the unusual and absurd. His keen observations of flawed humanity led to his wacky sense of humour. Be at peace Butch. You are loved.
Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there. I do not sleep. Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there. I did not die.
