Velma Stringer died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 92, on March 29, 2025, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Velma was born on a farm in Meath Park, Saskatchewan, on July 17, 1932. After completing her schooling, she moved to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, where she worked as a nurses aid for a number of years at the Prince Albert Sanatorium. Velma loved helping people, and in her later years shared fond memories of her time working in the hospital.
Velma married Edward Stringer on June 7, 1963. They purchased a home in Prince Albert, where they lived until early 2024.
Velma enjoyed preparing meals for friends and neighbors, baking, and visiting. She loved watching documentaries on tv, as well as her favorite show, Jeopardy. During the summer months, she would spend her time outdoors gardening and planting flowers. She enjoyed walking, and was always the first one to welcome new people to the neighborhood. Velma and Edward took pleasure in going for Sunday drives, playing scrabble, bowling, and in their early years, traveling. They went on many trips throughout Canada, the USA, and Europe.
Velma lost Edward this past December after over 61 years of marriage, and felt a very deep void after his death. She loved sharing stories with her friends about all the adventures and fun times her and Edward experienced together. Velma truly loved being a homemaker and taking care of Edward, and continued to do so right up until he died.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the wonderful staff at Preston Park Retirement Residence in Saskatoon for the love, care, and attention they showed Velma over the past year.
Velma spent her last month residing at Stensrud Lodge in Saskatoon, where the staff provided absolutely exceptional care for her during her time of need.
