It is with sadness that the family of Verne Shockey announce his passing at Stonebridge Crossing Retirement Community in Saskatoon on Nov. 25th, 2019 at the age of 89. He died peacefully and with dignity. Verne was born in Delisle and lived most of his life in the Vanscoy area on the family farm. He married the love of his life, Joyce “Jo” Olver and was surrounded by children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren his entire life. They brought him much joy and laughter. He was born to be a farmer. Verne was either on the land, in the barn doing chores, or in the shop fixing or building something. The only thing he loved more than farming was watching his kids and grandkids on the ball field, on the football field, in the hockey rink, or in the gym. I don’t think he and Jo ever missed a home game. The family would like to thank the staff at Stonebridge Crossing for the exceptional care both he and Jo received while being residents there over the past few years. Their professionalism and compassion is second to none. There will be a private family gathering to celebrate his life at a later date.
