Victoria Velma Vereb

1938 — October 8, 2016

Victoria Velma Vereb (nee Hildebrand) passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Saint Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, SK at the age of 78. Velma was born in Snowflake MB on May 12, 1938 to Adolph and Alvina Hidebrand. Later, she moved to Langruth with her family where she finished her schooling then was employed by the local Royal Bank. She was married to Joseph Vereb Jr. in 1958 and raised four beautiful children while managing a home and running a farm. She travelled with Joe to many warm destinations as well as to their children’s homes across Canada and beyond. Many days (and nights too) were spent fishing up at Hill’s Resort, Meadow Portage. During the past year, she embraced her new life within the Luther Riverside Terrace community in Saskatoon and was busy with many activities. Over the years, Mom had many hobbies, knitting, crocheting, crafts, and participated in many club and community events. She enjoyed reading and playing cards, especially crib and 5-deck canasta. Mom was a wonderful cook – supplying endless cabbage rolls, perogies, fresh bread and buns. She always planted an exceptionally large garden and processed all she could. Mom dedicated her life to caring for her family in sickness and health and always had a big smile, a twinkle in her eye and a hug for all. She will be greatly missed by her children Phyllis, Stan (Darlene), Yvonne (Kirk) and her grandchildren Shawn, Daniel, Connor, Michael and Brienna, as well as her siblings, nieces and nephews and numerous friends. Velma was predeceased by her soul mate Joe in 2011, her daughter Marcella in 2009, her sisters Ruth in 2014 and Edna in 2000 as well as her father in 1966 and mother in 1992.
