William Hunter

d. March 25, 2016

William (Bill) Murray Hunter 1919 – 2016 The family of Bill Hunter sorrowfully announces his passing on Friday March 25, 2016. Bill was the first of three children born to Jim and Mary Hunter of the Blackley District, northeast of Saskatoon. He attended Kilmeny School, then farmed with his Dad until 1942. Bill joined the R.C.A.F. (Aircraft Electrical Division), training at a number of Bases in Canada before being posted at Leeds England. Following his discharge in 1946 he returned to the family farm but also worked various jobs until moving to Tonkin Sk. where he met his wife Phyllis. In 1955 Bill bought a garage in Glenside. It was a big move for the family of four. He was always very active in the community but in 1967 he took on the responsibilities of being a single parent after his wife died. Over the years his business thrived and a new shop was built along the highway. He met his wife Connie at “ Minus One” in Saskatoon and together they kept busy with community events, the shop, and traveling with family and friends. In the early 1990’s Bill considered retiring and in 1996 he and Connie moved to Saskatoon. Bill soon joined the Pioneer Threshermens Club at the WDM and continued volunteering Wednesday afternoons for six years after his wife’s death in 2006. Following a brief illness a year ago, he decided to move to the Veteran’s Village at Sherbrooke where he only had the best things to say about his new family there. Bill is survived by his sister; Ruth Ewen, brother; Eric Hunter, sisters-in-law; Esther Packard, Joan (Jerry) Ogle, Olive Mortenson, Merle Bocking, brothers-in-law; Albert (Agnes) Jones, Ed (Karen) McMartin, Les Bocking, daughter ; Helen (Lyle); son Herb (Audrey), stepsons; Dennis (Jennifer) and Terry Stanley, grandchildren; Everet (Michelle), Harley (Lorilee),Travis (Lindsey), April (Jacques), Bobbi (Mel), Sarah, Jennie (Mike), Dean (Kelsey), Chantelle (Austin), great grandchildren; Braydon, Mackenzie, Angelica, Cedrick, Angelina, Jeanna, Ross, Kiyra, Hector and Freya.
