Obituary of Gary William Ulrich

Gary passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017 surrounded by his family, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his mother, Elsie Ulrich, his wife and best friend of 47 years, Janis, his sons: Shawn (Alicia), Jody (Jonelle), and Ryan (Jill), and his daughter Shannon (Wes). Papa will be remembered by his grandchildren: Krystin, Kaleb, Emma, Hudson, Quinn, and Emerson, as well as his great grandchildren: Arianna and Gabrielle, and his fur baby Oakley. Gary’s family include, siblings: Karen (Bill) Blair, Terry (Jan) Ulrich, Janice (John) Amundson, Rob (Jackie) Ulrich, and Dale Ulrich, his brother-in-law, Ian (Kim) Smith, and several nieces and nephews. Gary was predeceased by his father Bill Ulrich, sister Carol Jorgenson, nephews James Smith, Jason Ulrich, and his father and mother-in-law, Larry and Helen Smith. Gary retired in 2002 after 30 years with the Catholic Board of Education in Student Services. Gary was a life long fan of the Montreal Canadiens. He enjoyed antique collecting—especially clocks. He loved the outdoors, biking, walking, fishing, golf, and summers at Waskesiu, while the kids were growing up. Gary and Janis were very well known for always holding hands wherever they went. Gary really enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren. His family meant everything to him, and he will be missed.
