In Loving Memory of Robert Gibb: A Life Well-Lived

With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we bid farewell to a remarkable soul, Robert Gibb, Bob or Gibber, who passed away peacefully on August 11, 2023. A loving husband, devoted father, doting grandfather, respected business owner, and cherished friend, Bob's legacy is etched into the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born on July 15th 1948, Bob's journey was one of boundless adventure, unwavering kindness, and lifelong commitment. He was a man who embraced life's challenges with a steadfast spirit and a heart full of compassion.  He was full of humor and endless stories of his adventures for anyone willing to listen.

Bob's entrepreneurial spirit led him to join the Awl Shoppe with John and Joel Burns, where they not only crafted shoe and luggage repair, but connections that lasted a lifetime. His meticulous craftsmanship was surpassed only by the warmth of his smile and the genuine interest he took in each person who walked through his doors.

Beyond his role as a business owner, Bob's thirst for adventure and love for teaching led him to the vibrant landscapes of Nigeria, where he shared his wisdom and passion with eager minds, leaving an indelible mark on both students, friends, and colleagues.

An adventurer at heart, Robert embarked on a remarkable journey across the vast expanse of Canada, traversing its breathtaking landscapes on two wheels. His determination and sense of wonder served as an inspiration to all who followed his incredible journey through his story telling.

Family was the cornerstone of Bob's life, and his love for his children, Jamie Sommerfeld and Kelly Sommerfeld, knew no bounds. His role as a father was one of unwavering support, guidance, and boundless love. As a grandfather to Reece and Sienna Sommerfeld and Mac Woodward, Robert's heart swelled with pride and joy, relishing in the beauty of generational connections. A dedicated husband to Leslie Gibb and a cherished brother to Bruce Gibb, Robert's bond with his family was a testament to his nurturing and steadfast nature. His love and devotion were unshakable, providing a source of strength and comfort to those who were fortunate enough to call him family.

Jamie's wife Monique Sommerfeld, Kelly's husband Brandon Woodward, Bruce's wife Jeri Gibb, and Leslie's mom Una Whittaker are among family members that will also miss him so much. Bob is predeceased by his parents, Doris and Robert Gibb, who raised him on a farm near Lintlaw, SK with among other foundational qualities, a strong work ethic.

Sports and athleticism were woven into Bob's very being, earning him recognition as a Huskie athlete.  Although he played many sports he loved ball most of all. He played fast ball and baseball in his youth and slow pitch with Adams Lumber in his later years. Yet, his true strength lay in his kindness. Bob's heart was a wellspring of compassion, always ready to lend a hand (but only one), offer a kind word, or simply share a moment of camaraderie.

Let us remember the lessons he imparted: to embrace each day with vigor, to approach challenges with determination, and to treat others with the same kindness that he bestowed upon us all.

Bob Gibb's memory will forever remain a guiding light as we navigate the journey of life. As we say our final goodbyes, let us take solace in the knowledge that his legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched and the love he shared.
May you rest in peace Gibber, knowing that your legacy of love, compassion, and adventure will always be a part of our lives.
