Obituary of Reginald Edward Peachey

Reginald Edward Peachey
June 5, 1937 - December 22, 2023

It is with sadness on the morning of December 22, 2023 Reginald Edward Peachey passed away peacefully at Hospice Glengarda after a long struggle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife Stephanie, sister Elizabeth, sons Darwyn (Janice) and Barry (Beth), granddaughter Robin, great grandson Joshua, and Stephanie’s children Byron (Natalee) and Karla and grandchildren Jocelyn, Keeli, Avery and Colton as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was predeceased by his wife Gladine and daughter-in-law Judy.

Reg was born on June 5, 1937 and adopted by Edward and Alice Peachey of Conquest, Saskatchewan. He grew up in the Conquest area and attended high school in Outlook, where he met his future wife Gladine Berntson. They were married in 1956 and had two sons Darwyn and Barry. Gladine passed away in 2008 after more than 50 years of marriage. Reg married Stephanie von Hagen in 2013.

Reg was a long time educator and school principal, teaching over 40 years in several Saskatchewan schools, notably as principal of Hughton school, Loreburn High school and Osler school. He held a bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Alberta in Edmonton and also had Master’s diplomas in Educational Psychology and Educational Administration from the University of Saskatchewan.

Although he worked full time as an educator, he was also a farmer for much of that time, renting land at the south edge of Saskatoon and growing wheat and canola. When he wasn’t working at school or on the farm, or spending time with family, Reg enjoyed watching his favorite football teams and listening to music, especially jazz.

A memorial celebrating Reg’s life will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 11 am at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1636 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon. The service will be live streamed for those unable to attend in person HERE Please feel free to wear your favorite sports jersey.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that new and used books be donated to Read Saskatoon (Foundation Learning and Skills Saskatoon). Theses books can be brought to the service.

Stephanie would like to extend her heartfelt thanks to the staff (Doctors, nurses, care partners, music therapist, creative artist, life enrichment, social worker, cleaning staff, dietary staff) at Hospice Glengarda. Each of you provided excellent care and compassion to Reg and our family. Thank you.
