Obituary of Jim Fiddler

Jim Oscar Fiddler, age 84 passed away at St. Paul's Hospital on July 27, 2015 with his family by his side. He went by the name of Oscar for many years until he obtained his birth certificate listing his first name as Jim. He always preferred that name anyway! Jim was born on November 15, 1930 in Fish Creek, Saskatchewan to Henry and Alexandra (Kozar) Fiddler. He was one of eight children: Leonard –deceased (Violet) Fiddler; Theresa (Bill) Banister; Albert (Dorothy) Fiddler, Jerry and Gordon Fiddler both deceased, Ernie (Gloria) Fiddler, Allan Fiddler. He lived in the Fish Creek and Rosthern areas, later moving to Saskatoon where he met his wife to be, Olga Yakubowski (predeceased in 2010) at a dance hall in the spring of 1954, fell in love immediately and were married on November 10 that same year. They raised four children that they were very proud of. Over the years Jim worked in hardware and sales which he enjoyed doing. Later he worked in the fast food restaurant business as a manager and supervisor for Kentucky Fried Chicken for many years. He always tried to do his best and worked ceaselessly to support his family. He found he had a knack for managing and running a business. In the mid 1970's Jim and Olga were the proud owners of the 'Old Country Fish and Chip Shop' on Second Avenue. He eventually returned to the restaurant business as a manager and before he retired he was back working in hardware business. For a few years he had the opportunity to work with his youngest son cleaning carpets as he enjoyed the exercise while spending time with him during the work. Jim had a talent for music, playing both guitar and violin. He enjoyed listening to old time waltz and classic country music. Jim was an animal lover and especially fond of cats. He has had different cats over his lifetime and leaves behind his beloved cat, Sammy. Places they have lived; Saskatoon, Elmer, Quebec; London, Ontario in the 1960's, Edmonton and Calgary in the 1980's and back to Saskatoon for the remainder of their years. Jim's children are: Glenda (Philip) David; Arlene (Randy) Drimmie; Graham (Cathy) Fiddler; Dennis (Küllike) Fiddler. He has 9 grandchildren-Becky; Stefan (Rachael); Doralynn; Daniel (Diana); Melissa Hembroff; Cheryl (Andrew) Nation; Nick (Courtney) Hembroff; Sarah Drimmie; Anthony David and numerous great grandchildren. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Stained Glass Memorial fund with the Diocese of Saskatoon Catholic Foundation or to a charity of your choosing.

Funeral

There will be a viewing on Monday August 3 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Saskatoon Funeral home, 338 4th Ave N, Saskatoon. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at a funeral mass at St. Peter the Apostle Parish, 1121 Northumberland Ave. on Tuesday, August 4 for 10:30 A.M. followed the next day with a private family interment held at Woodlawn Cemetery.
