Obituary of Faye Madeleine Shaughnessy
Faye passed away on May 12, 2021 at Central Haven Care Home in Saskatoon.
Survived by her husband, Don... (they would have celebrated 67 years of marriage in July.)
Also surviving Faye are her daughter Terri (Wes Osatchuk), sons Del(Sandra) of Grande Prairie Alberta and Dean (Jean)of Denver Colorado. Along with 6 grandchildren Tanys(Dean Bilodeau), Shane Osatchuk, Raelynn (Symon Pfau), Cory (Dustin Wickberg), Victoria Shaughnessy and Patrick Shaughnessy.
Faye also leaves behind 6 great grandchildren, Brynn Bilodeau, Rylie Osatchuk, Shea Pfau, Sammy Pfau, Kyle Wickberg and Chelsey Wickberg.
Faye was predeceased by her parents, Violet and Earl Gordon, brother Tom Gordon and sister in law Joyce Gordon, mother and father in law, Lloyd and Rachel Shaughnessy as well as grandson Wade.
Faye was born and raised in Harris, Saskatchewan, moving to Saskatoon to attend Tech Collegiate in her late teenage years.
Faye worked in animal husbandry at the University of Sask until her children were born, then she became a full time, stay at home mom.
Don and Faye were married July 6, 1954. In 1958 they welcomed their daughter Terri, followed by son Del in 1960 and son Dean in 1964.
It was a busy life in the Shaughnessy house. Don and Faye were curlers and golfers. Don coached baseball. Terri curled. Del and Dean played baseball, hockey and they golfed. The winter highlights were watching Del curl... especially in the 1988 Brier. The summer highlights were following Dean to many golf tournaments then off to Texas where Dean was offered a golf scholarship. Mom and dad made a trip to the Canada Winter Games with Grandma and Grandpa Gordon to watch Terri and her curling team represent Saskatchewan. That continued when the grandchildren played sports, they always loved a good ballgame and followed Tanys to Provincial, Western and Canadian events, lots of times taking their other grandchildren along with them as extra cheerleaders. There was never a dull moment and often mom and dad had to split up, to attend one of the kids’ sports, but they never missed anything.
Mom and dad spent many years wintering in Texas...while Dean attended university there, and Mesa, Arizona, where all the kids would visit at least once a year. Such great memories we all have to enjoy.
Summers were spent at the cabin in Waskesiu for 40 plus years. Golfing, fishing, beach days and wiener roasts were a constant all summer long. Mom was a busy chauffeur, driving Del and Dean back and forth to the golf course at the lake as they played in the Junior Lobstick, then she would go home to clean up the cabin and head off to see them at the 10th and 15th hole... she loved watching them.
Sadly, mom was hit with many medical problems in her later years and finally dementia took over.
After spending months in the hospital with two broken hips mom moved to her last home. On Dec 31, Central Haven Special Care Home, where she was welcomed and cared for. Moms best days at the nursing home were days spent with all the family, lots of great visits were had by all. Central Haven staff cared for her and were “family” to her when covid hit and we couldn’t visit. In March 2020, dad also moved into Central Haven, we were overjoyed that our parents could be together again, it was such a blessing.
Moms last day was peaceful, Wes, Tanys and Terri were able to spend the day with mom and dad, lots of FaceTiming was done to Del and Sandra, Dean and Jean and the grandchildren. Everyone had a chance to say good bye to mom and tell her they loved her.
Tanys and Grandma Faye loved watching Blue Jays games and on moms last day... they held hands and “watched” the game together.
Tanys and Terri stayed with mom til the end. Soft music played, lots of giggles, reminiscing and tears. We know mom heard us and was happy to have us with her.
We’ll all miss mom terribly but she’s now at peace, no more pain, no more suffering.
We’re so thankful for the care that was given to mom at Central Haven and the care they still give dad.
