Obituary of Kenneth Brian Cvek

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Ken Cvek of Saskatoon. Ken was born in 1966 into the loving home of his mother Thelma and Dad, Frank. This dear boy grew up in a world filled with challenges, meeting each with peaceful determination.

All his life was a fight with doctors for many years to get a diagnosis for his disabilities so that we could better understand his needs. Throughout he remained the gentlest soul with a sense of mischief to the last days of his life.

He attended Greystone Heights School, followed by attendance to John Dolan School, from which he graduated in 1987.

Ken began to attend the summer program at Cosmopolitan Industries in 1984 and continued there as a full time member of the team after finishing school. He was pleased to work hard and make many new friends.

As Ken got older, he attended less frequently, but still took joy in helping out. He would often help out by doing announcements at Elmwood - without prompting and often at inopportune moments. He loved attending programs involving music and dancing in particular, and remained devoted to his Nintendo until the very end of his life.

Before his passing, he was fortunate to have been placed with a wonderful group of specialists who worked tirelessly to improve and maintain a high quality of life for Ken.

His life is a study in kindness and friendship, for he inspired friendship in so many who met him, entertaining and delighting people with his wonderful sense of humour and joyful outlook.

Ken is survived by his loving mother Thelma, and "Sis-Sis" Jennifer who was with him to the very end. He was also survived by uncles Ted and Bob, his furry pals Kaiser and Frankie whom he adored and told repeatedly to settle down, the many kind volunteers who worked with Ken and enjoyed his sense of humour, as well as many cousins and good friends he'd made over the course of his life.

Thank you to all who shared in and enhanced Ken's life experience.

He shall never be forgotten.

A Celebration of Ken's life will take place at 10:00am Saturday March 4, 2023, at McNeil Fitness Centre at 2012 Arlington Avenue, next to the Nutana Curling Rink.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ken's memory may be made to the Saskatchewan Lung Association at https://donate.lungsask.ca/.
