Obituary of Richard Philip Becquet
It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Philip Becquet announces his unexpected passing, with family by his side on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 — just two days shy of his 72nd birthday.
Rick is survived by his four children: Tom, his wife Jodi and their children Mae and Allison; Barb, her husband Jeff and their children Jessica and Michael; Bryan, his wife Sarah and their children Jacob, Elijah, Gwendolyn, and David; and Debra, her husband John and their children William, Andrew, and Ayden. Rick is also survived by his brother, Bill, his mother, Dolly, and Karen, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 37 years Lyn, his grandson Christian, his sisters Colleen and Wendy, his father Jim, and his lifelong best friend Bob.
Rick was born in Cloverdale, British Columbia, on August 25, 1951, where he took all his schooling. He met Alice Lyn Halldorson and was married on March 24, 1973. Rick and Lyn lived in BC until 1981, when they moved to Saskatchewan. They eventually settled in Yorkton, in 1999, where they ran their internet business together. Rick continued to live there after Lyn’s passing, and it became Grampa’s house.
Rick was an avid bowler, a lifelong member of the five-pin bowling association, and active in the bowling league in Yorkton for many years. He loved his current job of driving school bus for the Good Spirit School Division. His most recent passion was wine making, of which he was very proud and very productive. Rick loved to travel, finding great joy in driving long distances to see family, friends, and beautiful destinations, often on short notice. He enjoyed road trips across the United States and Canada, first with Lyn, and in his later years with Karen, camper in tow. His family was his pride and joy, and he was loved by his grandkids who were always eager to follow Grandpa to his camper, where he would hand out ice cream bars.
A small memorial service will be held at Bryan and Sarah Becquet’s farm, north of Churchbridge and east of Saltcoats, on Saturday, September 2, at 2pm. Please contact a family member for directions.
