Obituary of Glen Edwin Hardy

With great sadness, we announce that Glen Edwin Hardy (84) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, passed away in Royal University Hospital on September 7, 2023.

Born in Hudson Bay, Glen grew up on a small farm in Etomami, where he, his father Edwin Hardy, mother Olive Hardy, and sister Irene Brehmer worked hard to make a living on the land during the war and post-war years. In 1953 the family moved to Qu’Appelle where Glen finished high school. As a young man he worked in Regina, where he drove taxi, earned his pilot license, and, most importantly, met the love of his life and wife-to-be for 58 years, Winona. “I could not have done better,” he would say in recent times. Glen and Winona married in 1965 and moved to Saskatoon to raise a family.

Glen always worked hard to provide for his family. He was a natural-born engineer who could fix anything. He repaired computers in the early years of that technology, and made a good living as a service contractor for all manner of electronic equipment. Most importantly, he was a conscientious and caring husband, father, and grandfather, who quietly supported us through every stage of our lives. Within family and community, he was valued for his friendly smile, humble nature, and unquestioning readiness to help anyone in need.

In the last year, Glen waged a difficult battle with pulmonary fibrosis. But he never stopped communicating to us his love and affection, his wisdom, and his wonderful sense of humour, even in the most trying of times. He was a precious part of our lives and will be dearly missed forever. Until we go fishing again, dad.

Glen is survived by his loving wife Winona; his sons Stephen and Jordan (Jodi); grandchildren Bren (Sarah), Sam, Mila, Lily, and Luke; great grandchildren Silas and Kaiya; as well as nephews, nieces, and friends. He was predeceased by his father Edwin, his mother Olive, and sister Irene.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
