Obituary of Tom Bowman

Bowman, Thomas David

Thomas David Bowman died September 9, 2023 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, SK.

Born on April 16, 1940, to Russell and Dorothy (Hemphill) Bowman in Lima, Ohio.

Tom grew up in Ohio. He was Valedictorian of his Bellville High School class and played cornet in the band. He graduated from Wilmington College, then received his M.A. at the University of Rochester in New York, where he met and soon married Patricia Ann Good on June 22, 1963.  They lived in Wooster, Ohio, where he was an English instructor at the College of Wooster, before emigrating to Saskatoon in 1967 to teach English at the University of Saskatchewan and work on his PhD. Commercial writing for Federated Cooperatives, The Marketing Den and then freelance became his career. Tom was President of the Saskatoon Seniors Continued Learning for two years, and exercised at the Field House with the Coronary Artery Rehabilitation Group.

His lively sense of humour came across in the satirical pieces he enjoyed writing and had published in college and later in the Star Phoenix and the Calgary Herald. Tom loved reading, music, and art and was a generous, kind and loving man.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Pat; his two daughters, Donna Bowman (Robyn Froese) and Kathleen Redly (Pal); his grandson and granddaughter, Daniel and Anna Redly; his three brothers, John (Ruth Ann), Jim (Claudia) and Ted (Beth); his friends, neighbours and other family members.

No formal service, but a private celebration of his life by family and friends will be held at 2:00 p.m. on October 8th at their home.
